Based at Niles Discovery Church, Troop 112 is boy-led and adult-supported. Scouts are in charge of planning meetings, campouts, hikes, service projects, and troop and patrol activities. As we are a smaller troop—around 25 scouts—there are plenty of ways to get involved in leadership roles, which are required for rank advancement.
Wee meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 7:00 - 8:30 P.M. at Niles Discovery Church at 36600 Niles Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536.
In addition to monthly campouts and epic summer camp adventures, our troop enjoys hiking, orienteering, biking around the Bay Area, whitewater rafting, assisting with Eagle Scout projects, spinning signs at our annual Mr. Mikey’s parking lot fundraiser, community service projects, rock climbing, advancement picnics, and competing with other troops at Camporee. As our troop is very diverse, we also enjoy around-the-world troop dinners where we get to experience and learn about the delicious tastes of the cultures that surround us.
Each year, Troop 112 scouts vote on where they would like to attend summer camp. Typically, members of our troop will present their favorites and why they would like to attend that camp, and once all options are heard, the majority vote wins. In recent years, we have attended Camp Wolfeboro, Camp Hi-Sierra, and Camp Emerald Bay. Though we will have the option for summer camps every year, we also plan high-adventure camps, including our 2026 trip to Sea Base.
Nope! Previous scouting experience is not required. The troop will guide scouts in learning the fundamentals of scouting and help them
Yes! Most of our scouts are in various sports and academic extra-curricular activities. Since we only meet twice a month, the additional demand on time is minimized, plus we find that having an outlet for learning life- and survival-skills to be a great activity balance for our scouts. In scouting, they are able to learn essential lessons all while being away from screens and other distractions, and there's nothing like nature to reset a young person's mentality to be more productive in their day-to-day demands.
Yes! We are so grateful to have the continued support of Mr. Mikey's in Niles! This local business gives us the opportunity to manage parking in their lot during the Antique Fair. Boys work in shifts to offer paid parking to fair attendees.
We may also choose to participate in other fundraisers from year to year depending on the needs of the troop and scouts. Fundraisers have included popcorn, chocolate bar and wreath sales.
We encourage, but do not require, all parents to become registered leaders in the troop. This helps spread the work needed to run a volunteer-based organization among many capable hands. However, we understand everyone has their own set of limitations, so our main requirement is encouraging your scout along their path and helping them get to meetings on time and in the appropriate uniform.
Absolutely! In order to become a registered adult leader, you must be current on the youth protection training designated by Scouts BSA, as well as California's AB-506 mandated reporter training. In addition, all registered leaders are required to do a livescan fingerprinting and background check. This is to ensure safety for all youth in our organization. There is additional training for particular roles within the troop of which our troop holds a high-percentage of fully-trained leaders. We are proud of this distinction as it ensures we are carrying out our roles to the best of our ability and in accordance of the mission of Scouting America.
Troop 112 is a smaller troop in the area—ranging from about 20-25 scouts—so we have a lot of opportunities for those scouts that are really looking for advancement and leadership opportunities. Our involved group of adult leaders is always willing to work in Boards of Review so that scouts may continue on their advancement track without delay. In addition, having a smaller troop allows us to get to know each scout, and understand their goals, so that we may help them along their journey. Also, younger scouts and older scouts are meshed together as we find that everyone can learn from one another, therefore building a stronger and tighter-knit troop.
